Plans Now Available!!!

Finally finished!!! the plans for the new Auto Locker conversion back are now ready!! it has taken me awhile but thier finished. This is for all the do it yourselfers!! Plans include instructions picturs and drawings to help you construct your own back and convert your camera to 4×5. this is a great conversion and when you get done it looks like it’s suppose to be there. the work very well and shoot great!!. New Autolocker back!!

Here is the latest back design!! I have made more improvements to my 4pt design. In past designs the thickness of the holder had to be adjusted manually . Now with this design it automatically adjusts to the thickness of the holder. Now it is possible to go from a double-sided film holder to a Polaroid 405 or 550 back with out any manual adjustments.

Something New!!!

Some new thinking has been going on!! I am trying to do a couple of things with my projects. I am trying to always upgrade and make it easier for the user. But I am concerned with price and also turn around time. One of the big problems I am constantly faced with is the amount of time it takes me to build these. I am very slow. so my intent was t build something that eventually I can offer in a plan based system that potentially a do it your selfer could build. I am planning on putting together a set of plans and diagrams so it can be built by you!!. so this is what I have done. The new back is basically constructed out of 1/16th” aluminum angle and has been cut in different configurations (there is a few other pieces involved though)  The new back has an internal locking mechanism and is set up the same way a Polaroid back conversion, with the door cut down and utilized. you will notice in the picture, that the controls are now under the door… This back also has some cool features. it is lighter than the resin back, and is 1/2 inch thinner. it is really user friendly and I am very very happy with its out come. One More Polaroid Conversion completed!!!

Here is the latest Polaroid conversion and with all of them comes a few new tricks. This one has a new polished brass insert in the rail and is drilled for the appropriate infinity stop, there is a small knob mounted on the standard to lock into the plate. The back has taken another evolutionary step, same principle but this one has connected the clamping mechanism into the original door latch which aids in clamping the film holder tightly into position. as always your comments or opinions are always appreciated. The next conversion will feature a new carbon fiber covering and a few more little added features..Stay tuned

Update for Polaroid conversions!!

I am changing the way I do business as far as selling conversions. Due to the fact that my conversions have become more involved and I am having trouble keeping up with customer expectations.( I just take to long to build them) and I apologise for that. I will no longer be taking orders to build and or customize. I will now be building them to my specs and will offer them for sale when they are ready for delivery. I will post photo’s and information of the available for purchase item on the blog before they will be available on Ebay as well. I think that this way will work for every one concerned. The Latest 110B Conversion

Here is the latest conversion it is a 110 B and with all of my conversions I always try to add another piece to the puzzle. This is the first one to have all of the new pieces, But I’m pretty sure I am just about to the limit with these. everything is so tight one adjustment turns into trying to fix 4 different things. The new tilt shift uses a bigger barrel and the adjuster is easier to get to. The 4pt back has adjustments on all 4 points. and this one has a spring loaded light trap assembly that I originally designed and use on my 12×20 . comments are always welcome and appreciated!!!

New Project!!!

A couple of years ago one of my instructors gave me this 16×20 stat cam. I had always planned on doing something with it but it seemed to always just get pushed to the side…Well no more!! it’s time for a new project!! I have decided to work on some wet plate negs and want to be able to print them so I need an enlarger.  I like to work with 12″ x 12″ glass plates , so in the coming weeks I will be building a light source and turn the old stat cam into a horizontal enlarger. I will update the project as I go along…Stay tuned… comments are always welcome…

Some Assembly Required

Yesterday I got to spend the day with my brother Jeff,  powder coating parts for new conversion camera’s. As with everything I do it starts out to be a simple project but somehow turns into something completely different. I will go on record as saying “I hate puzzles!!!” but it seems every good project has the ability to turn into a giant puzzle. As Jeff  placed the finished parts on the table I couldn’t believe how complex the conversions have become. Now that I have all of the pieces required,  some assembly is required!! (this is actually the parts for 2 (4pt) backs and 1 tilt/shift conversion)
